fever dreams

I’m home from work with a cold today. I should be in bed resting, but I find that when I fall asleep, I’m dreaming about work – projects I need to start or finish, emails unsent or sent too hastily – the type of technical minutiae that keeps people like me from dreaming about pastoral scenes or ocean horizons.

One such dream took me to the New Mexico town of Chimayó, about 25 miles north of Santa Fe. This is not the New Mexico of Breaking Bad. This is lowrider country, a village of shadows in broad daylight. I was clearly an outsider, and it was my intention from the onset to pay a quick visit and pass on through. Indeed, that’s what I should have done…
