Julio Fairchild

Julio Fairchild is my maternal grandfather. Having died in November 1946, nearly 13 years before I was born, we never had the chance to meet. Some have told me I look like him.

a hug from a stranger
who says
I have his eyes

I often think of him during the Thanksgiving holiday, as I’ve learned that that’s around the time he died at the age of 46.

November rain —
they say he died
on a day like this

If I believed in an afterlife, I’d love to talk with him, even if just to rib him for being a Yankee fan.

tonight I’ll dine with him
the grandfather
I never met
