a dream to be

To clarify, it’s a dream I’ve never had.

To abandon myself in a dry river bed with nothing but a will to survive, the cacti stoic and tall while I cower in a fetal position, clutching the sand with my skinny fists and shouting into the pale night air. Something in the distance stirs, but it dare not move.
